At each Show & Tell event, up to 3 people take the stage to to present their current project, product, build, innovation, prototype, an insurmountable problem, half-baked solution, slick technique – whatever they think is worth sharing. Our communal goal is to challenge them, give feedback, offer advice, and of course, praise their work and courage. Drinks and networking while and after.

Alltagsgegenstände begegnen uns überall – in unzähligen Formen, Farben und Materialien. In der Werkstatt der Dinge gehen wir den Ursprüngen einiger Gebrauchsgegenstände auf den Grund. Wir forschen zu sogenannten Archetypen und suchen die ursprünglichen Formen und Funktionen von Objekten wie Taschen, Stühlen oder Tassen. Ausgehend vom Archetypus fangen wir an neu zu denken. Wie sähen eure Produkte aus? Welche Materialien würdet ihr wählen? Welche Formen und Farben sprechen euch an?

Ausgangspunkt ist das gemeinsame Lesen von zwei Texten (Marc Fisher „Good for nothing“, englischer Text; Tanja Abou „Prololesben und Arbeiter*innentöchter“, deutscher Text), die rechtzeitig vor dem Workshop bereitgestellt werden. In gemeinsamen Lesepausen werden Gedanken geteilt, Verständnisfragen geklärt und persönliche Erfahrungen ausgetauscht.

Am Beispiel der Neugestaltung des Orangerie Theaters in Köln zeigt Felix Boße, wie sich Ethik und Ästhetik nicht ausschließen, sondern gegenseitig befruchten. Ob im Corporate Design, im digitalen Spielplan oder in der räumlichen Signaletik – aus Empathie entsteht Haltung, aus Haltung entsteht Form. Barrierefreiheit ist kein Zusatz, sondern ein Ausdruck von Gestaltungskompetenz.

Design ist ein Spiegel von Kreativität – doch mit der rasant steigenden Leistungsfähigkeit generativer KI stellt sich die Frage: braucht es dafür noch menschliche Designer:innen? Algorithmen können heute nicht nur analysieren, sondern auch gestalten, vorausahnen und inspirieren. Doch lässt sich Ästhetik mithilfe von Daten und Wahrscheinlichkeiten produzieren oder lediglich imitieren? Dieser Vortrag zeigt Beispiele, wie datengetriebene Ansätze und KI-Werkzeuge die Maschine zum Designer werden lassen und öffnet die Diskussion, was menschliche von maschineller Kreativität unterscheidet.

The fourth and final Lab Talk in the Aedes programme Democratic Design brings design and education together, discussing new ways of integrating democratic values in architectural education and asks: How can we teach democratic values and participation through planning and design to a new generation? What spaces are needed for this? How can we value the young generation and their culture on a social level in public space instead of focusing one-dimensionally on the economic viability of places?
